Shop News for April 2011

Greetings fellow pewter enthusiasts:

Living History Famil Photo With near record amounts of snow this year, it’s no wonder there is still quite a bit of the white stuff on the ground around my shop, in the fields and on the ski slopes across the valley at Crotched Mountain. But Spring is indeed here and warmer weather is not far off.

Business is picking up again, thanks in part to Yankee Magazine. I’m one of six artists featured in their article, The New New England Heirlooms, in the March/April edition on newsstands now—or online at yankeemagazine.com. What an honor to represent NH and be listed with the likes of Miranda Thomas and Simon Pearce from nearby Vermont.

New Product Announcements

I’ve added two new bowls to the product line this year. I was inspired, as is often the case, by pieces which I would like to have in my own home.

Condiment Bowl The Condiment Bowl looks like a scaled down Revere Bowl with its round bowl, flared lip and sturdy, low foot.

Dip Bowl The Dip Bowl is an ultra modern design with slightly angled straight sides. It holds 12 oz. with room to spare. Try one, or both!!

Send us photos of your Gibson Pewter.

The gentleman who commissioned 64 Shrub Cups last year shared this photo. Incidentally, I sampled the rum shrub drink and enjoyed it. We’ll post his recipe soon.

Samuel Hamlin Porringer Antique of the month

This month I’m offering a very fine 5.25″ flower handle porringer by Samuel E. Hamlin, Providence, RI – 1801-56. The linen mark is clear and crisp and the touchmark is fine as struck. The bowl on this example is quite heavy and has nice chatter marks on the central boss. A great addition to any collection!

With Best Wishes,
Jon Gibson
