Announcing a Great New Raffle for 2012

The Bradford Quart Tankard is a reproduction of an early 18th century piece made in New York City by pewterer William Bradford, Jr. The original is an extremely rare tankard. Only a handful of marked examples exist. Ours has the distinctive ramshorn thumbpiece, and low, flat lid with crenate lip and a sturdy handle with a boot-heel terminal. This tankard is a numbered series.

Our pewter Heart is a special piece. My sister Lauren carved the first model out of wood back in the 1970s, and my father pressed the wooden heart in some moist plaster. Our first hearts were cast in this open mold. I still have the original mold and some of the early castings.

Over time, we’ve refined the heart so that it is smaller and easier to carry. We’ve also improved upon the casting process, so that the hearts have a smoother surface.

Most important, though, are the hundreds of stories that have centered around our pewter hearts and other peoples personal experiences be they happy or sad. People have taken these hearts around the world and give them as simple gifts. It’s a powerful symbol that has special meaning to many people.

My father hand-carved the model for the Plain Cross when I was a young boy. He was a Congregational Minister as well as a pewterer and this piece had special meaning to him. The rope chain is nickel plated brass and is quite sturdy.
