77th Annual Craftsmen's Fair

Treat yourself to the League of NH Craftsmen Annual Fair at Sunapee State Park (it runs thru Sunday the 15th). Crowds have been strong this year and the weather great. So pack up the family to see some of Americas finest craftspeople and their wares, including numerous demonstrations each day. Though I'm not there this year, my Centerpiece Bowl is on display in the Living With Crafts exhibit.

Second Annual Hillsborough Living History Event

Speaking of demonstrations, this week I'm also putting the final touches on the Second Annual Living History Event site coordination here in Historic Hillsborough Center. The event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday August 21 & 22, from 9am to 4pm each day.

I'll be casting spoons in antique molds all weekend. Friend and founding member of the NH Furniture Masters group, William Thomas, will be demonstrating the art of dovetail cutting on Saturday. Local Blacksmith, Gary LaRose, will be demonstrating each day. Walking tours of the Center, tours of the Historic Center cemetery, cider pressing, maple syrup demos, an 18th century style magician, Betsy Ross sewing a flag, square dancing lessons, and a Bone Shaker Bike talk & demonstration is scheduled for the Center.

Living History Highlights at Hillsborough Center

Historic Hillsborough Center is a charming historic village that served as the center of local life until the 20th century. Still a quaint area, it is full of historic buildings and structures that include an animal pound, horse sheds, cemetery, school house and churches. Activities in the Center include:

  • Mr Bayly, an 18th Century Magician
  • School House (circa 1818) Re-enactments with Linda Brown
  • Master Cabinetmaker demonstration by William Thomas
  • Blacksmithing demonstration by Gary LaRose
  • Maple syrup & maple sugar making
  • Square Dance lessons with Chris Pinkham
  • Sew a Flag with Betsy Ross
  • Pewter casting demonstrations by Jon Gibson
  • Walking Tour
  • Bone Shaker Bike
  • Cemetery Tour with Glen Knoblock
  • Cider Press

Many other activities are scheduled around Town—at the Franklin Pierce Homestead, in Historic Downtown Hilsborough, and out on Jones Road—all in that activity-packed weekend.

Check out Historic Hillsborough NH 2010 Living History Event for more information. Fun and educational activities for the entire family!
