Gibson Pewter Shop News - September 2013

Greetings from Gibson Pewter

Camille, Emily, Lily & I enjoyed a very busy summer in the shop. Sales of our work are up dramatically this year and we even had strong sales of antique pewter during Antiques Week in August as well. All positive signs that the economy is turning around as we look forward to Fall Foliage and visits from you, our valued patrons.

This weekend is going to be busy around here. Camille and I are both participating in the Hillsborough Area Artisans Open Studio Tour this weekend, September 21 & 22,

10:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days. Over 20 local artists participating in this free, self guided annual event. Check out HillsboroughArtisans.com for more information and directions.

2013 Christmas Ornaments

The girls and I got an early jump on Christmas Ornament production this year. We've added four ornaments to our product line which we are pleased to offer for sale now.

The Loons in Wreath is our featured ornament for 2013 since we have a Loon Pond right down the road from our shop. It is sculpted on one side and 2.75" in diameter.

The Candles in Wreath is an old classic, sculpted on two sides and measures 2.25" in diameter.

Santa is another classic ornament which is sculpted on two sides and measures 2.25".

The Baby Shoes Ornament is also sculpted on two sides and measures 2.25". Three initials and a year can be stamped on the back of the shoes for free to honor baby's first Christmas!

Each ornament comes with a red hanging ribbon and is neatly packaged in a cotton filled white gloss gift box.

Antique Bronze Molds

I am happy to announce that we recently had an opportunity to acquire over 100 antique bronze molds, including an 18th century 10.25 basin mold!!! A number of the molds are initialed, "W.I.C." and were produced and used by 19th and early 20th century Boston pewterer, W. I. Cowlishaw.

We're in the process of photographing and cataloging the molds and look forward to actually using them in the coming years!

Many thanks to John Starvish, Jr. of Starvish Pewter (who used these molds for many years with his father) for understanding the importance of keeping this important group of molds together. We're honored to be the new stewards of these wonderful molds. Thanks John!

With All Good Wishes,
Jon, Camille, Emily & Lily Gibson
